July 2nd, 2008 at 10:14am |
Good Friday is the day on which Jesus was crucified. Christians celebrate Jesus’ arrest on that day, followed by His trial and Crucifixion, His intolerable suffering and final death. It is believed that after His death, Christ, the Son of God returned to his home, Heaven. Churches around the world celebrate this day to commemorate His sacrifice and suffering for the sake of humanity. On the occasion of Good Friday this year, make a pure white wreath of dried lilies, roses and a variety of dried flowers to decorate your home.
Materials you will need:
- Straw or foam oval - shaped wreath
- Dried white longiflorum lilies, larkspur, roses, chrysanthemums and gerberas
- Fresh white calendula
- Cardboard
- Foliage
- Florist wire
- Wire cutters
- Floral tape
- White satin ribbon
- Scissors
You may follow the simple steps:
- Arrange the foliage over the wreath base and secure with floral wire.
- Snip off the flower heads of all the flowers except the roses. Trim the rose stems to a length of 2 inches. Divide the roses into two unequal portions and make two separate bunches by tying them with floral tape. You may add few decorative leaves to the bunches. Cover the tape with white ribbon.
- Using hot glue cover the wreath with the flower heads.
- Place the two bunches of rose on two sides of the wreath, in such a manner that they lie on the white flowerbed.
Attach two white candles on both the sides of the wreath and light them.
- Make a large a bow with ivory white satin ribbon and attach a silver cross in the middle of the bow. You may also hang the cross with a silver color thread from the top of the wreath.
- Now we shall make the star attraction of the wreath. Lets make the cross first. Cut 2 pieces of cardboard, one piece longer than the other. The cross should be long enough tom reach the lower half of the wreath. Secure the two pieces in the shape of a cross. Applying hot glue, attach the white calendula flowers to the cross.
- Now place the cross on the wreath vertically so that the tip of the cross reaches the lower half of the wreath. After adjusting the position, remove it. Now, apply hot glue to the back of the cross and attach it to the wreath.
